How Frame Size Is Determined

This calculator uses the height-to-wrist ratio method. Your height (in cm) is divided by your wrist circumference (in cm). The resulting ratio is compared against gender-specific thresholds to classify your frame as small, medium, or large.

Frame Size and Ideal Weight

The Hamwi formula and many other ideal weight equations adjust their estimates based on frame size — typically adding or subtracting 10% for large or small frames respectively. Knowing your frame size helps set more realistic body weight goals.

This calculator provides an estimate based on wrist circumference. Elbow breadth measurement is an alternative method that may give slightly different results. Frame size classification is a general guideline, not a clinical measurement.
