Understanding DOTS
DOTS (Dynamic Objective Team Scoring) was introduced in 2019 to address statistical biases in the older Wilks formula, particularly at the lightest and heaviest bodyweights. The coefficients are fit to modern Open Powerlifting data, reflecting contemporary strength standards rather than 1990s performance distributions.
DOTS vs Wilks
DOTS and Wilks produce similar rankings for most mid-range bodyweights. The biggest differences appear at weight-class extremes. If you compete, check your federation's official formula. For personal tracking, DOTS is the generally-preferred modern standard.
