The Race 2 goes after the original’s biggest weakness, the wrist heart rate sensor. The redesigned six-LED unit is a clear step up, though testers still saw it lag sharp changes in effort. It sits behind a larger 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED at 2,000 nits, double the Race’s peak, and battery still went up: Suunto now claims 55 hours of dual-band GPS and 18 days as a smartwatch, from a thinner 12.5mm case that weighs 76g in steel. Free offline topo maps, 32GB on every model, Recovery State, HRV, and fitness age cost nothing extra. You still get no offline music, no contactless pay, and no on-watch rerouting, and at $499 it costs $100 more than the original Race, which Suunto still sells.
