The Race was Suunto’s answer to the AMOLED multisport pack, and since the Race 2 arrived it is the value pick rather than the flagship. Free offline topo maps, dual-band GPS, and a rotating crown are all here, and firmware has lifted the claims to 50 hours of dual-band GPS and 16 days as a smartwatch — for $399 in steel, $100 under the Race 2. What that saving costs you is the older wrist heart rate sensor the Race 2 was built to fix, a 1,000-nit screen instead of 2,000, and an 83g steel model. Suunto also left it out of its summer 2026 feature update. No music or pay, but the training metrics are serious.
