The Vantage V3 was Polar’s 2023 reset, and the debut of the Elixir sensor stack: a fourth-generation optical array plus wrist ECG, SpO2, and nightly skin temperature. Around it sits a 1.39-inch AMOLED, dual-frequency GPS, and offline topographic maps. Ten days in watch mode, 43 hours with GPS running. Every analytic Polar makes — Training Load Pro, Recovery Pro, Nightly Recharge, SleepWise — is free in Flow, which is the whole pitch against Garmin’s tiering. What you give up is the smartwatch half: no music, no payments, no apps. And read the ECG for what it is — a 30-second HR and HRV snapshot, not AFib screening.
Strengths
- Full Elixir sensor set: wrist ECG, SpO2, skin temperature
- Offline topographic maps and dual-frequency GPS included
- Every training and recovery analytic free — no subscription
Tradeoffs
- No onboard music storage or contactless pay
- Wrist ECG gives HR and HRV only, not AFib screening
- No all-day stress metric to match Garmin’s Body Battery
