The Loop is Polar’s first wearable with no screen and no buttons: a 19.5g module in a steel buckle on a textile band, meant to stay on around the clock. It reads 24/7 heart rate, steps, sleep with Sleep Plus Stages, and Nightly Recharge recovery, holds four weeks of data on board, and syncs to Polar Flow. Nothing is behind a paywall, which is the entire argument against Whoop. What it skips is the Elixir platform — no ECG, no SpO2, no surfaced skin temperature — and, with no display, no way to start a workout, read a notification, or see a number without reaching for your phone. Training detection is automatic, and not reliably so.

Strengths

  • No subscription — every feature included in the purchase
  • 8-day battery with four weeks of data stored on board
  • 19.5g module, comfortable enough to sleep in

Tradeoffs

  • No ECG, SpO2, or usable skin temperature
  • Screenless and phone-dependent — nothing readable on the wrist
  • Automatic training detection is unreliable, with no manual start
