The Helio Strap is the first credible Whoop alternative that you buy outright. Same idea — no screen, 20g on the wrist, continuous per-second heart rate, sleep staging, HRV, and a daily BioCharge energy score — but $99 up front with nothing required after that (the optional Zepp Aura tier, $69.99/yr, adds AI wellness guidance rather than core metrics). Optical HR accuracy in workouts is genuinely good, and it broadcasts heart rate over Bluetooth to Zwift, Peloton, or your watch. Where it trails Whoop is the analytics layer: BioCharge is less consistent than Whoop’s strain and recovery scores, and auto-detection invents workouts you never did. There is no built-in GPS — pace and distance come from your phone. An optional armband lets you move it to the bicep for lifting.

Strengths

  • No required subscription — $99 buys the device outright
  • Lightest recovery band at 20g, 10-day battery
  • Broadcasts heart rate over Bluetooth to third-party apps

Tradeoffs

  • Auto-detection logs workouts that never happened
  • BioCharge scoring is less consistent than Whoop strain/recovery
  • No built-in GPS — needs your phone for pace and distance
