The Active 2 Square is exactly what the name promises: the round Active 2’s sensors, software, and battery moved into a rectangular stainless-steel case, with sapphire over a larger 1.75-inch, 2,000-nit AMOLED. Everything else carries over — five-system GPS with free offline maps, 160-plus sport modes including HYROX, sleep HRV, 24/7 SpO2 and skin temperature, a daily Readiness score, and ten days of typical battery, 19 in saver mode. That is also the problem. At $149.99 it costs $50 more than the round standard model for the same capability, and only $20 less than the Active 3 Premium, which adds four buttons, a 3,000-nit screen, running power, and music storage. Buy it because you want the Apple Watch silhouette, not for anything it does.
