Estimate your ovulation date and most fertile days based on your cycle history.
The typical menstrual cycle runs 28 days, but anywhere from 21 to 35 days is considered normal. Ovulation — the release of an egg from the ovary — happens about 14 days before your next period, regardless of cycle length. That's an important distinction: in a 32-day cycle, ovulation is around day 18, not day 14.
Sperm can survive 3-5 days inside the reproductive tract. The egg itself only lives 12-24 hours after ovulation. That's why the fertile window starts 5 days before ovulation and ends 1 day after — sperm that entered earlier may still be waiting when ovulation happens.
