How Age Grading Works

The calculator finds your age-and-gender world record standard for the chosen distance, divides by your time, and multiplies by 100. The result is your age grade — a percentage that lets you compare performance across ages, genders, and distances on a level scale.

Performance Tiers

World class: 90%+. National class: 80-89%. Regional class: 70-79%. Local class: 60-69%. Recreational: under 60%. These tiers are widely used in masters running communities to set goals and compare athletes.

Formula

Age Grade % = (Age-Adjusted World Record Time ÷ Your Time) × 100

Age-graded standards are approximations and are updated as new records are set. Use age grade as a relative benchmark, not an absolute measure of fitness.
